⁶ But his father had never ^[a]grieved him at any time by asking, “Why have you done so?” And he was also a very handsome man in form, and ^[b](A)he was born after Absalom. ^7 [c]And he had conferred with ^(B)Joab the son of Zeruiah and with ^(C)Abiathar the priest; and following ^(D)Adonijah, they helped him. ⁸ But ^(E)Zadok the priest, ^(F)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, ^(G)Nathan the prophet, ^(H)Shimei, Rei, and ^(I)the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
